Cyanotypes and Botanical Art have gonehand in hand since the early days of photography and the invention of the process by Sir John Herschel in 1842. A year in 1843 later Anna Atkins published the first book to be illustrated using a photographic process. The books topic? Botanical of course.
Sometimes I wonder if it is this connection which keeps bringing me back to using plants, or if it is simply because they seem to work so well with the process producing such beautiful results.
Originals from Annas’ book are held in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and visiting to see them is most definitely on my bucket list.
